From growler filled 45min prior. Fairly thick looking black pour. Thin layer of fine tan bubbles.

Aroma, Peaty roast malt, some dark chocolate. A lighter woody smoke.

Taste, Roast malt, some anise and herbally hops. Nice chocolate. Gives way to some big chocolate covered smoked, well maybe just chocolate covered smoke. Fantastic how it starts out hidden and builds then finishes with the smoke component.

It's a nearly creamy carbonation, but maybe just medium body. Could be considered just slightly thin. But the abv is manageable and I could drink a bunch of this. Great for a fan of smoked beers.

I feel like the Danish and Scandanavian brewers do smoked dark brews best, but this can compete. Another well thought out effort from Coast.

Description: Smoked Porter is up next. More balanced than the one from '08! In our honor of cousin Beth's (and Mikey's older sister) Birthday- we are doing an 80's throwback and calling it "Beth Death Smoked Porter"

A - Pours damn near black with nearly 2 fingers of chocolate colored head, ok retention, lacing a bit weak.

S - Quite roasty, chocolaty, lots of smokey wood, somewhat earthy.

T - Very smoky roasty - almost reminiscent of smoked tobacco, very minerally, some chocolate and caramel balance out the smoky roasyness with a fair amount of sweetness, mild earthy hop presence. Well balanced, as promised.

M - Very smooth with a relatively low amount of carbonation, great!

O - Well balanced, super smokey, quite roasty but sweet and a mild hop earthyness. Smooth and drinkable. Pretty tasty - It did not amaze me but im certainly satisfied
