Sunspot Golden Ale is an American take on a traditional Czech Pilsner that distinguishes itself by being infinitely drinkable. Brewed with fresh Czech Saaz hops and American Pale Barley, Sunspot Gold has a deep, rich golden color and delicate hop character. Americans have a habit of taking products and improving them. We believe this is especially true with our Sunspot Gold.

Picked up a can of this a few years ago when I was in Phoenix at that wonky place in a strip mall that is real popular but lies to their customers.
Pours a slightly hazy yellow color with a small head 1/4" that doesn't last. Aroma was a bit of grain and almost nothing else. Dem Saaz hops must be sleeping.
Taste, much like the aroma, the hops are sleeping and grain is the most perceptible thing about the beer. The crisp noble/saaz hop character and carbonation just isn't there. Even more, while its a blonde ale and should be relatively thin, this is relatively thin for even that thin genre. Really does nothing bad nor impressive. This is a palatable beer for people who don't want a beer with color, hops, bitterness or heft.

Pours light golden with a head that immediately fizzes away. No real lacing to speak of.
The smell is of grain/cereal with a light floral touch.
The taste is of a honey-like and grainy sweetness. A light floral touch in the finish gives it some balance.
It is light-bodied. On the thin side even for its being appropriately light-bodied. Crisp. Easy to drink.
Inoffensive. Forgettable.

A lemon/golden with a finger of white head that leaves a mild lacing. Smells grainy, grassy, and bready. Taste was a little off, with the grains. Can't put my finger on it, but, slightly musty. Feel is, medium thin body, average carbonation, and not all that dry.

Is this a wildly-excellent golden-ale? No. But honestly—and I make this note on account of the very middling reviews—it's pretty delightfully in offensive.
Starting with appearance: Sunspot boasts beautiful, ferocious bubble-streams, which highlight a nice burnished-bronze. The nose is a step down, but not far: nice dry, dusty, husky malt aromas, with very little detectable sweetness but solid undertones of orange-zest and coriander. Flavor, if not complex, is nonetheless hardly milquetoast: solidly crisp and refreshing, there are mild, white-bready characteristics, touches of orange and lemon peel, and a sort of soft, crème-fraîche creaminess at the finish that is velvety, but more tart than thick-&-frothy, as some overdone goldens. All of which amounts to a pretty sessionable, and—as aforementioned—very inoffensive brew that nonetheless *does* have flavor.

Sorta like a flat, more flavorful, more potent Miller Lite. Very drinkable, but not memorable. I would certainly drink again on a hot day, but wouldn't seek it out.
