From: Costco in La Mesa, Calif.

Reviewed as: Russian Imperial Stout
Misc.: No bottled on date
Rachel picked this one up for me on a recent trip to Costco. As she was describing it, I didn’t know that it was a Dark Seas beer. Also realized as I typed this that I hadn’t reviewed a Dark Seas beer yet. Generally, I was not a fan of Mission Brewery’s beer, but wanted to give this one a shot. Mission’s website called it, “Our fan favorite, Russian Imperial Stout with tons of peanut butter added. 9.8% ABV.”
Poured a pitch black color with frothy tan head, which thinned out quickly. Slow moving bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spiderweb, foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled dark-roasted coffee, dark chocolate, creamy peanut butter, toffee, char wood, molasses and dark fruit. Maybe a tad more peanut butter from the bottle. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted dark-roasted coffee, bitter dark chocolate, toffee, caramel, creamy peanut butter, char wood, dark fruit, molasses and wood. (Taste - 4.00)
Full body. Sticky-to-slick texture. Average carbonation. Long, roasty finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Overall, this was an outstanding RIS. Just lovely. (Overall - 4.25)
