Bomber into snifter.
Dark reddish brown with a dense rocky head. Opaque.
Lightly spicy rye presence with pronounced weizen character, redolent of clove, banana, and gum. Restrained noble hop aromatics blend with pumpernickel bread. Very nice.
The flavor very much resembles a quality Dunkelweizen. Rye is firm, imparting grainy and lightly spicy notes with some pumpernickel breadiness. Low bitterness with expressive yeast character: banana and clove. Pleasantly sweet with a touch of tanginess and tartness in the late palate. Medium body with high carbonation.
This is really enjoyable and probably something I'd make a point of drinking somewhat regularly if it were local and I were in the mood for a German beer.

i must say a fascinating blend of german lager yeast with a quality of brown and porter all in one beer. very very complex for the abv. pour is mahogany with a 2 finger head. nose is bit toasty and a distinct lager hay bubble gum quality that i have found is being associated with laboratory german yeast strain. palate is a bit toasty, a bit bock like, chocolate notes, but quite dry. sesame seed hints. great opportunity for a very offbeat style that will become popular once the stigma of dark beer makes me fat goes away... but who am i kidding.. beer makes you fat.
