Had this at a Great South Bay tap takeover at Rattle and Hum (gross murray hill bar, not worth the trip to murray hill).
This was by far the best offering from Great South Bay. Would definitely order if I ever see it on a bar menu but wouldn't go out of my way for

On draft at Tap and Barrel, Smithtown, NY.
Poured a slightly hazy brass hue with a one half finger frothy white head. There was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured moderate citrus notes and a touch of pine.
The taste offered a full hop spice and a pleasantly dry caramel malt. A slight herbal basil detected, though not what I would have expected.
The mouthfeel was touch flat, though properly carbonated.
Overall a tasty hop forward IPA. I would have liked a bit more basil though.

The aroma is very much a fruity IPA of sweet oranges, pine, floral, some sweet bready malt.
The flavor transitions with a big pop of dried basil, onto the oranges, pine. The middle has sweet caramel malt with a spicy rye on the back along with a piney bitterness.
A decently interesting brew, although whether the basil or rye benefits the IPA is up to the drinker.

Pours a clear amber color with a tight beige head that has some soapy bubbles. The head settles into a light cap. Pretty color. 3.75
The aroma is of grapefruit and orange. There is also a hint of pepper and the basil. Perhaps a touch of sour from the rye. 3.75
The taste starts off with a hit of the basil and a piney hop blast. Some metallic/earthy notes from the hops as well, perhaps from the rye. Orange notes from the zest and the citra hops but those are fairly subdued. The basil shows up again in the finish with more piney/resiny bitterness. 3.75
The body is light with semi-soft carbonation. Quite bitter throughout the palate. Some sweetness pops through but this is pretty bitter. 3.5
An earthy IPA with subtle herbal notes. I was hoping for more from the basil or perhaps less piney/earthiness to let the basil shine more. 3.7

I am a little biased, because I made this beer, but it is delicious, perfect balance of hops/basil/rye. This beer won the LIBME GSB Pro-AM and will be entered into the GABF Pro-AM against 100 other brews from some of the best breweries across the nation. I went for big citrus flavors with the hops, to compliment the orange zest. YUM
