Look: Mahogany on the pour and in the glass and my rapid dispense causes a tan head to form a pillow, hold, and slowly recede, leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Pine needles and sap, grapefruit, lemon and orange zest, freshly baked brown bread, wafts of chocolate, and fir needles
Taste: Opens up with light chocolate followed by a punch of rich, bready malt that brings a little toffee and brown sugar with it. Citrus and conifer notes peek in and out, at times stealing the spotlight, before pine, chocolate, and toffee return to close it out, along with a bite
Mouthfeel: Full, clean, medium-high carbonation, and lightly dry on the finish
Overall: This is delicious stuff. I loved this seasonal 22oz back in the day and its inclusion in this ‘classic’ 12-pack was the main reason I bought it and can attest that it is still an awesome beer. Like it describes itself, this is a hybrid IPA and brown ale where the malt bill keeps the brown ale profile dominant and it all works well with the hops to make a tasty and well-made hoppy brown of sorts. Thanks to 10 Barrel for bringing this gem back [briefly] and recommended

Poured from a bomber into my Stone pint glass. Reviewed live.
A- Thick three finger head, long retention. Clingy lacing, reasonably thick head. Gorgeous nut-brown color with semi-clarity.
S- Brandy, brown sugar, earthy hops and toasty malts. Warm and inviting smelling beer with an alcoholic kick. Holiday-smelling.
T- Toasty malts and sweet twinge at the end before ending up in the hoppy bitterness. Earthy and delicious with some nice warming alcohol.
M- Acrid feel, not smooth, but not repelling.
O- Quite nice beer. I'd like it again.

22oz bomber to Sam Adams Perfect Pint.
A: Clear caramel color bordering on dark brown...off-white/eggshell colored head has good retention, there is some creamy lacing left behind.
S: Hoppy nose...nice...citrus, tropical fruit, pineapple...Citra really shines here...caramel and toasted malts are buried.
T: Tropical fruit and astringent bitterness, balanced well by a moderate brown-ale malt bill...more Simcoe here, with plenty of citrus hop notes and sweeter fruits to complement the light puckering from the bitterness.
MF: Moderate bitterness...body on the lighter side of medium...some lingering bitter dryness on the finish, though certainly not 'West Coast' dry.
O: Really pleasant offering...too hoppy to be a brown, much closer to an IPA I believe...whatever the case, I like the concept of an 'Oregon Brown Ale'.

22oz : tulip pint
Pours a wonderful dark, amber brown with a foamy very light brown head.
Big hoppy citric notes, but is helped balance out by some pleasant malty notes.
Medium-full body with medium carbonation.
A really well done beer. Very hoppy, but still balanced with easy drinking.
