On tap at the Sunday River Brewpub, in Bethel, Maine, on July 24, 2004. This seasonal offering was served in a pint glass, with a cloudy, banana yellow body, and a small, offwhite head that quickly faded into collar and film lace. Some sparse, patch lace was left on the sides of the glass.
Aroma was dominated by pungently, fresh red raspberries. The fruitiness is much more than an afterthought, as in many fruit beers. Wheat grain was adequate to lend a hint of lemon to the aroma.
Mouthfeel was light bodied and adequately carbonated.
Taste was dominated by the raspberry fruitiness, in a pleasantly refreshing sort of way. The sweetness is not overdone, but the hops presence is difficult to pick up, although they are, certainly, present to add an adequate degree of refreshing bitterness. Finish is quite clean, with only a slight raspberry aftertaste.
This is a most enjoyable, summer brew that combines the tart/sweet red raspberries into a refreshing wheat ale. A couple of pints of this will satisfy your summer, raspberry craving.
