Pours a dark nearly opaque brown with plenty of foam in the Wander goblet. Warm and malty, fairly sweet but not syrupy. A little buttery in the finish with burnt sugar and the oaky Bourbon aftertaste. I think of Mexican cocoa spices. Dark raisins, coffee, and bitterness linger on. Aroma is a little odd with fruitcake and plums.
Overall, an interesting and very sippable stong brew with dark winter flavors. This is another in the Alta series that has been made for several years as part of the anniversary celebrations. I can't tell which year but it's distinctly lower in alcohol than others in the series.
