Boxcar Juicy IPA is large on tropical juice, with aromas of apricot, orange, and papaya. Low on bitterness, a hop forward juicy IPA.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, from my favourite LCBO at The Roundhouse Centre in nearby downtown Windsor. My first beer from the St. Thomas brewery.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Oct 5 2023 and served barely chilled.
Pours a hazy, translucent apricot-yellow, boasting nearly two fingers of fluffy, foamy white head that collapses within three minutes or so. A generous collar of frothy, soapy suds is left encircling a filmy cap, with a tight ring of lace clinging to the glass - looks normal enough. Stone & tropical fruity aromas, including peach, orange and pineapple, with lesser notes of passion fruit and berries.
Reasonably juicy flavours: I'm getting hints of stone fruit, orange and pineapple, propped up by bready pale malts. Finishes with a floral, slightly piney hop bitterness that doesn't last long; light stone fruit and citrus pithiness dissipate into an off-dry aftertaste. Medium in body, with a smooth, fluffy mouthfeel punctuated by gentle carbonation that lightly brushes across the palate. Good drinkability for the style - finishing this can was easy enough, and I could handle another.
Final Grade: 3.79, a B+. Boxcar Juicy IPA is hardly a revolutionary beer, but it's still a serviceable addition to Ontario's extremely crowded 'hazy and/or juicy IPA' scene. In addition to being merely 'pretty good', it's also a bit of a sidestep from Juice Caboose (their old juicy IPA, which may have been discontinued), in that it isn't markedly better or worse than its predecessor. Still a decent pale ale, and I might take this over Dead Elephant... I guess it'd depend on whether I was in the mood for something juicy like this, or a more bitter, old-school IPA.
