At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, from my favourite LCBO at The Roundhouse Centre in nearby Windsor. My second beer from the St. Thomas, ON brewery.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Sep 17 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a deep, clear copper amber colour, stirring up less than an inch of frothy, pale beige-tinged head that seeps away within a couple of minutes' time. A sudsy collar remains, with serpentine strands of lace deposited after each sip - looks good in a stein, that's for sure. Malty aroma that features notes of caramel, sourdough, toasted grains and biscuits, with just a hint of orchard fruitiness.
The flavour profile is sweet and malty, comprised of toasted grains & nuttiness, with notes of caramelized sugars, biscuity malts, bruised apples and a hint of raisin. Hints of earthy, leafy hops crop up towards the finish, with more toasted malts and caramelized sugars dissipating into the aftertaste. Light in body, with moderately lively carbonation that lends a crisp bite to this red ale's smooth mouthfeel.
Final Grade: 3.69, a B grade. The Iron Spike beers were once a mainstay of Railway City's line-up, but they seem to have fallen by the wayside, with both the Blonde and Copper apparently no longer in production. There was also an amber, and it seems reasonable to assume that Iron Spike Red is a descendant of that beer, if not an outright rebranding. It's a good amber, but given that this is not a style that I gravitate towards, I don't see myself buying it on a regular basis. Still worth a shot if you enjoy malty ambers.
