0,5L glass bottle from Eurostyle Deli in Skokie, IL. Produced 28.02.21, BBD: 25.11.21. Label claims “72 hours of natural fermentation” and an import label lists “drinking water, sugar, and kvass wort concentrate” as it’s only ingredients.
Dark garnet tone with a 1” head of tan foam that fades to a broken skim. Bright clarity initially, with a bit of haze once the sediment is poured in.
Aroma is faintly roasty, with a raisin note undertone, basically raisin bread toast. The taste is similar, raisins and toasted bread crusts. Slight bread dough yeast fermentation in the aftertaste. Pleasant lingering dry toastiness. Moderately sweet, a slight tartness, thin bodied with fizzy carbonation.
Overall it’s not bad, but as with most commercial Kvass, the sweetness is a little fatiguing, especially towards the end of the glass.

Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.
The revitalized Original Kvass Kick heads right on back to the Motherland for another entry. This one pours a clear tawny topped by a finger or so of beige froth. The nose comprises pumpernickel, fennel, and a good amount of sweet cola. The taste brings in more of the same, just with even more cola and a very mild sour-ish twang throughout the finish. The body is a light medium, with a heavy moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, not a bad commercial kvass, but it does seem like more of a bread-flavored cola soda than anything. Still pretty drinkable, though.
