This wheat beer pours an orange color (darker than your average wheat beer) with a thin white head and a good amount of carbonation. There is a mild wheat scent, but it is mostly overwhelmed by a mélange of fruit scents including orange and possibly strawberry? strangly enough. The body is fairly light and despite the weird scent this is really more straightforward then I thought it would be. You have your standard wheat and malt flavors with a little bit of orange kind, which is kind of reminiscent of a more polished Blue Moon. There is a subtle, strange, fake strawberry flavor that inexplicably sneaks in at the end, but it doesn’t detract too much from the overall flavor. After the strawberry flavor though the finish is kind of flat and doesn’t really leave any kind of lasting impression in your mouth. This one isn’t terrible, but it doesn’t really do it for me either. I have stuck up for some of their other beers, but I think that this one actually is pretty mediocre.

November 11th, 2014 - New English's Why Not Wheat captures how I felt as U stared it down at my local supermarket. Priced inexpensively, I decided it would be fine to pair with a light meal of vegetables and sautéed chicken breast. It's a clear, lucid looking beer with bubbles here and there, but few and far between, with an aroma that's like a pale lager - corny, crispy and bubbly. The flavor is like a pale lager too, with a slightly sweeter aftertaste bringing in white grape juice. Basically, there's not a whole lot here that's like a wheat beer. Instead, I feel like I drank a bomber of pale lager, which is fine with a meal, but not what I expected at all.

Type: Draft
Glass: .5L (16.9oz) glass
From: Tiger! Tiger! in North Park (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $3.00 (selected beer between 5-8 p.m. on a Tuesday)
Purchased: July 1, 2014
Consumed: July 1, 2014
Misc.: N/A

Poured a yellow, pale, semi-clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky, off-white head when I got it. Some bubbles coming up from the bottom. Very nice layered lacing along the sides of the glass. Below average retention on the top all the way down.

Smelled vomit, wheat, cereal, corn, grassy notes and honey. Not good at all.

Tasted corn, pilsner notes, Kix cereal, Corn Pops cereal, vomit, wheat and grassy wheat.

Light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, grassy feel.

Not a good beer at all, but maybe I’d try it again in the bottle.
