An India ale with more than three month's age?! My goodness, how awful!! Another gift from my co-worker and a much needed revisit of the Bootlegger's portfolio, on to the beer:
Obsidian colored and topped with an inch of tanned head. Head retention sits on the solid side. I'm hit with a powerful aroma; I smell weed, melons, mangoes, orange, and a wet kiss of roast. Both the hoppy and malty aspects perform a beautiful duet to my nose. Not to be overshadowed, this Double India Dark Ale brings a smorgasbord of beauty to the palate. Starting the melody is the quick on its feet feeling of the beer. Chocolate covered oranges, dusted with mango on the side, offer a delicious note. A breeze of pine and bittersweet roasted malt add bonus components to this ale. Stuffed inside a medium-full body, the alcohol content hides itself well, and as a bonus easy drinking for its size.
Do I get points deducted if I drink this in the daytime? If I do, then the sky is the limit here, because that's when I drank this beer! I'd love to return to Bootlegger's Night in the future, but next time, when the stars and moon light the dark sky.

Bottled on 4/21/15.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, dark chocolate, earth, citrus zest, and pine needle flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a great balance between the cocoa, roast, and hop characteristics all around.
Serving type: bottle.

Bottle served in a pint glass. Pours black with a tan head that leaves lots of lacing. Roasted malts hint of coffee and cocoa. Some mild hops notes. Well balanced beer that is very drinkable.
