On-tap at Bootlegger's

This was a pilot batch of a hoppy pale ale, but the assistant brewer who made it didn't like how it turned out so he added some Macintosh apples to it to help mellow out the bitterness.

A: The pour is a surprisingly clear golden amber color with a couple fingers of white head.

S: I suppose the hops are still there, but the apples really come through strongly. They provide a lot of sweet fruitiness to the aroma and the citrus and pine from the hops is sort of pushed to the background. Not a super complex nose, but good.

T: There's a nice breadiness to the flavor that works out very nicely with the sweet fruit character. If you didn't know it was apples, you might not pick it out instinctively, but you would know something was "different" about it. There is really only a mild hop bitterness to it.

M: The body is medium with a lively carbonation somewhere north of medium.

D: Pretty interesting. As a pale ale it's not amazing, and it's not the "frutiest" fruit beer either, but it was nice all around and easy to drink.
