Pours a dark brown-black in the tall Saxo tulip. The head is big and frothy. The aroma of citrus is both surprising and pleasant. This is described as an "Oatmeal Tangerine Porter" that is brewed with a Belgian-style yeast.
The mouthfeel is nicely sudsy and fairly light bodied. Roasted malt flavors with some dark grainy typical Porter taste. Just slightly sweet with the orange flavor and the dark hints of bitter chocolate. There is a little citrus peel bitterness in the aftertaste. Brewer rates this at 30 IBUs and I'm not getting a lot of hop flavor of fragrance, but there is that bitter touch. The yeast is not so evident but there is a drier finish than expected.
This is a slightly crazy but highly drinkable brew. I'm hoping to try the tap version next holiday season. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at the brewery in Temecula.
