Poured from 22 oz bottle into my trusty glass mug. Colour is a hazy amber/copper with a off white head and some nice lacing. Smells slightlt fruity like most Belgian ales. Taste is similar with maybe a hint of carmel or something similar. Average mouthfeel. Not the best but certainly not the worst. Prost!

Poured from 22oz bomber into my Fremont globe.

Appearance: medium-light gold with a dash of haze and a good effervescence. Head is a thin layer of frothy white foam with a somewhat thick lace left on the glass. Not too bad.

Smell: nicely orchardy apple-pear aroma with a definite sweetness, though thankfully not overdone. I quite like it.

Taste: the same nice orchardy character from the aroma, but the sweetness here is a little too much and the alcohol heat is just a little too high. Not bad, but far from perfect.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a moderate carbonation and decent creaminess.

Overall: this beer had some promise up front, but it's just a bit too sweet and a bit too hot to be great.

22oz bottle - not sure what 'blacklist' means in terms of this offering, but the style choice is interesting enough for a Cali brewer.

This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, very loosely foamy, and mostly just bubbly dirty white head, which leaves a bit of rocky outcrop lace in places around the glass as it quickly evaporates.

It smells of gritty, grainy pale and caramel malt, bruised bananas, zesty yeast, bubblegum-tinted candy sugar, and weak earthy, leafy, and grassy hops. The taste is bready, lightly doughy caramel malt, a further distinct graininess, more heady banana esters and a few of their apple and pear colleagues, a now laid-back yeastiness, and gently weedy, leafy, and wanly grassy hop bitters.

The bubbles are nice and engaging in their swirling frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, just a wee yeasty prickliness etching the surface enough to make one grouchy. It finishes off-dry, the graininess and banana-led fruit cabal starting to enforce the local closing hour ordinances.

An agreeable, if somewhat underwhelming rendering of this Belgian sub-style, the fruitiness allowed to get a bit too big for its britches, and thus the whole of the deal gets kind of disjointed. I suppose the just north of 15-proof alcohol is well integrated, so kudos for that, but overall, my palate is really starting to crave something else.
