Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a dark brown with strong red tones and a thick khaki cap with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt with hints of caramel, figs, dates and mild dark stone fruit. Flavor is malty biscuit, molasses, dates, figs, plums, finishing with moderate spicy bitterness from hops or spicing, classic old ale profile, but spicier. Nice medium to heavy bodied with light creaminess. Nice dense old ale malt body with interesting threads of dark fruit, mostly dried, but hints of fresh plums. Finishes with an interesting spicy bitterness that is hard to identify, but must be winter spices; the spicing/bitterness is well supported and fits in well with the rich malts. A nice, full flavored old ale with a bit of spicing, but not as intense as a lot of winter warmers. This gives this a pleasant finish that sets it apart from other old ales and appropriate for cold weather sipping. Very nice and enjoyable.

Winter warmer brewed in the style of an old ale. Deep ruby-mahogony hue in the light, carbonation slowly flowing to the top to give this brew a small tan head. No lacing present.
Earth and malt shine through on the nose, very pleasant with very subdued hop hints. Caramel candy on the tongue, toffee, malty, tasty tasty. Earthy, oaky, lightly slick and resiny. Dark fruit notes; plum, fig, raisin and prune. Very faint hop bitterness overtaken by the big malt presence in this one, very balanced and well done. Some roastiness in here as well, along with some wine-like traits attributed by the dark fruits. Alcohol presence being 9.8% is blanketed well in this one and makes this one highly drinkable. A true winter warmer and by far my new favorite from Black Market.
