Quick Take: Subtle balance of malt, caramel, roast, and hops with a nice, off peat smoke aroma. Nice mouthfeel. Like a smoky Red Trolley Ale with little more hops.
As of this review, it looks like they are discontinuing this beer and turning it into a Wee Heavy. Until they bring this back, other good Scottish ales are the Wee Heavy from AleSmith Brewing Company in San Diego, the Pipers Scotch-Style Ale From Sprecher Brewery in Wisconsin and even the Wee Heavy from Belhaven Brewery.

On tap at Black Market Brewing Company in Temecula, CA.
Pours a hazy dark copper with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, caramel, and toffee aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel and toffee flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that smells slightly better than it tastes in my opinion.
