The Birmingham one-two required a short jaunt from here to there. And somehow, Davo, err, I mean Mr. David LeBoud, and the Uber driver quick quick quickly bonded over Little Asian food, Sunset Park, some basement joint (fight club?), Singapore, Parsippany, and flat-ass Oklahoma. I don’t know, he may be a grifter. And the Uber driver is suspect, too. Dropped across the street from a large ballfield, maybe (definitely), we couldn’t have arrived too soon…

A big brick & beam standalone building, easily located as their large one billion bulb logo sign out front lights up the sky like the goddamn bat signal. Past the manicured lawn & penned tabled seating area and up the stairs along the deck space of the same and in.

Cavernous open space. Concrete floors and a vaulted ceiling, with drop lantern bullet lighting tracing the bar, wide pans above, and a large hop cone lamp in the far corner. Giant dark gray cinder block walls with panel windows pieces up front over the entrance & deck, and a wall of windows to the rear where the barback isn’t offering brew room views and barrel fun look on.

Loooooong steel bar; dinged, stained, & drilled through (as there are holes of different sizes), horizontal wood plank base, and nowhere to lay my feet but tucked into the mixed chair and stool rungs below. Seating for 12 but it could fit more. The barback fronts a large cold box alongside the brewery proper. A small board sits on center, and a row of 14 nondescript handles to each side fronting colored chalk drawings of larger tap handles on the wall behind it; the beer names listed within the drawings vertically. From afar, it must look just like labeled handles. Racking on the counter to both sides holding glassware, and crowls & growls. Large sprawling slat board running the length of the barback above listing draft selections; beer, ABV, SRM, IBU, pricing for ¼ pour (which I guess is a 4oz sampler), 12oz, pint, crowl, and 32oz & 64oz growl fills). The crowl costs $1 more than the 32oz growl fill of the same volume, I presume it’s because can crimping is union work and they negotiated a higher wage to do that job in the last contract. The selections are separated out between core beers on one side and big beers/seasonals/limited release on the other side.

So, beer. The board is carved out between ‘core & seasonal beers’ (Good People IPA, 7.1%; Good People Pale Ale, 5.8%; Good People Brown Ale, 5.8%; Bearded Lady, Wheat Ale, 4.2%; Coffee Oatmeal Stout, 5.7%; Muchacho, Mexican Lager, 4.8%; Denim Downhiller, Winter Ale, 5.3%), and ‘big beers & limited release’ (Snake Handler, Double IPA, 10%; Dry Hopped Kettle Sour, 5%; Smash Simcoe, Session IPA, 4.9%; Brut IPA, 6.4%; Plum Gose, 4%; Adjunct Professor, gluten free Juicy Ale, 5.5%; Sour Pash, Passionfruit Sour, 4.9%; Dark Lager, 4.6%; Tart Tangerine, 4.6%), and a single non-beery item (Lemon Seltzer, 5%). And then there’s (like) 10 IPAs up from last week’s IPA day.

We were kind of pressed for (closing) time, so I took in 2 pints and a few shortys. Good People Brown, nutty toffee niceties, I like; Dark Lager, nice malt backbone; Brut IPA, Diactyl, sadness, and a slight lingering remorse; Tart Tangerine, Hey, Mr. Tangerine Man!, meaning I liked this one; I went 3 for 4, not too shabby. Wish I’d had time to get into the IPA mix full on.

Some booths on the far wall and a few picnics, too. Flats to both sides of the barback and a projection screen on the end. Not a lot of décor play but there is a massive wood Alabama state map piece on the front wall. It’s done up in slat wood, each county carved out in a different color and its strips facing other directions. Someone put a lot of time and love into it. Just absolutely amazing. Funk Farm bottle posters pasted on the far wall. Spacious swag zone includes bottles, bottles, bottles, bottles, and more bottles. And then shirts and hats and the uge offerings. There are a few pallets of cans and some barrels stashed above the swag nook. Oh, and it seems the front porch is a wraparound because you can get to it out the side door past the swag zone. Good stuff.

Solid place and I’m glad we got in here, albeit later than we expected (although to be fair, it was many hours in from ‘ouisiana with stops along the way. Lots of running, busy day). Definitely worth a visit when in town.

Good People Brewing is located across the street from Regions Field, a minor league baseball stadium. Since it was game day when I visited the brewery, it was lively inside.

Good People provided a very nice vibe for its guests. Lots of space inside and out. The front and to the side they had plenty of bench seating. Also, they had some games for patrons. Once you walk inside you have some tables, bar area, taps, and you can see brewing equipment in the back. They had 10-12 beers on tap, I believe all house beers. I had four tasters of various beer styles. I thought they were well done. The servers were friendly.

They don't serve food, but a food truck was parked and serving on their premises.

Overall, a very nice place to enjoy beers in Birmingham.

I get to Birmingham a couple of times a year for work. I have really enjoyed the positive changes in the local beer scene. I have been meaning to make it to Good Peoples for some time and this last trip I was able to get there.

Located across the street from a nice minor league baseball park, I am sure this place is really hoping on game days. The whole area seems to undergoing some gentrification with new buildings, etc.

As you approach, you will notice the large outdoor patio. There is also a second outdoor area that is also off the taproom.

This is a nice space. There are stained concrete floors, a long bar, nice exposed metalwork, some huge fans, etc.

I sat at the bar and received prompt and professional service from the bartenders. They are free with samples which is nice.

They offer their beers in several sizes ranging from a small pour up to 32 oz. I thought the pint price of $6 was a fair deal.

I only saw house beers, which I was ok with as most of what I had was very good. I took a crowler of IPA with me when I was leaving.

They had a nice crowd. I enjoyed talking beer with several of the friendly patrons.

I will have no problem making a return visit.

It's been awhile since I've been back to Alabama, but in my opinion Good People has the coolest vibes out of the Birmingham breweries. While I hear Ghost Train is a good time too, that wasn't open while I was living there. Always solid beers and I'd highly recommend checking them out if you haven't already.

Nice taproom right across from the minor league baseball stadium. I went one night when it was raining, and ended up cutting out after a couple of beers, but the place was hopping. Nice area to the side where bands can set up. Big patio out front (not covered) and a rather large area inside. This brewery had the largest selection of beers on tap and probably the best beer that I had at a brewery in Birmingham. There was a food truck out front, guessing there is one there most of the time

V-Awesome. Local and thriving. Good combo of industrial and Alabama/southern vibes. Everyone was in good spirits, and everyone was there for a good time and good beer. They also had a delicious food truck outside.
Q-Everything from the bathrooms to the seating and beer was top notch. Wonderfully set up in every single way.
S- Great service, they were there right when you needed them for a refill.
Selection- They have the best beer in Alabama in my opinion, they didn't dry out all night either.
Brewery was very visible behind the glass., very industrial and huge for a micro brew.

My favorite brewery in Bham by far. Blue Collar is its feel. Where some of the other taprooms are covered up with Gen Xer's and their registered pooches, I walked in GP one day and there was an old man who had two goats on a leash. I knew I had found the place I wanted to hang out and drink beer! Good beer and an even greater staff to take care of you!

Location was near the minor league ball park. Parking available. Nice open space which connects the inside to the outside. Nice looking modern place with a nice wooden bar. I particularly liked that this drinking establishment had an area for smoking. I couldn't get a feel for the people here as I probably came around 7 pm on a Saturday at which time there were very few people. The draft list was varied but I didn't remember drinking anything that outstanding.

Visited 8/6/15 at 1pm and I was one of the few people in there which I enjoyed. Joel running the tap was friendly and helpful. I had a few brews but my favorite was Snake Handler. Good atmosphere...not too foo foo, not too industrial. A nice place that is worth a visit.

Visited while seeing the in-laws over vacation. Good beers, very friendly, casual staff. Looked like they had just opened or in middle of renovations but still open. The beer is good, the "taproom" isn't very appealing to the eye-but still VERY MUCH worth the visit. As a bonus it's located directly next door to Birmingham's AA baseball team/stadium.

This is a great downtown Birmingham brewery with a cool vibe. Located next door to the double-A baseball stadium, it is a perfect spot for a fresh, pre-game beer during the season. Currently, Good People is renovating the facility and I expect it to be even better. It can be tough to find parking for your sober driver, so be prepared for the hunt.

Not only is the place great, the beer is consistently very good. Year-round offerings will not disappoint, but look for special releases throughout the year.

One of the coolest brewery/taprooms to visit. Everything evolves around the old truck logo. Country cool. The place was pretty busy, but bartenders got to you quickly. Our tour guide ( a young lady volunteer who was a teacher by trade) really knew her stuff and made the group feel very welcome. A decent selection (but no El Gordo). The Snake Handler was terrific. Lots of TV's with sports playing.
A must when you're in Birmingham doing the beer tour.

Visited on a Monday afternoon so it was pretty quiet. The taproom is right there in the brewery so you can see what is going on. They have all beers on tap...but no growlers or bottles. El Gordo was terrific and one of the best stouts I have ever had. The staff were very nice and helpful. This place is great for Birmingham and Alabama in general. It brings them closer to beer par!

Just an awesome venue. Giant projector televisions, outdoor beer garden (dog friendly) and a ton of indoor space to sit in air conditioning with friends.
I flew in for a work trip and this was my first stop on a football Sunday. Man, am I glad I made that decision. industrial but friendly feel. I will be back every time I am with an hour of this place.

Stop #425 on my world brewery tour.

Visited around 7 on a Friday in Spring. Family en route to the Florida panhandle and overnight-ed it Birmingham. First stop was at Avondale and wanted to hit GP on the way back as it was close to the hotel.

A person at Avondale raved about the DIPA at good people so I had to check it out. I suppose it was good for Alabama standards, but I prefer my DIPA's dryer with less crystal/roasted malt.

Good People had a bunch of stuff for our kids to mess with in the smallish courtyard (compared to Avondale). It was also nice that you could drink indoors in the shadow of the stainless steel.

Best brewery in Birmingham in a prime location right across from Regions Field. They don't have a massive selection of beer, but what they have is good. Tap room is in the brewery, so it can be loud and hot/cold depending on season. Parking is not great in this area and can be a pain. Overall it is worth a trip but don't plan on eating there because local laws don't allow them to serve food. Sometimes the food trucks post up there.

The brewery is across the street from the AA Birmingham Barons stadium. I have been here multiple times and it is a good atmosphere to grab a beer and something from a food truck before a game. The entrance room is air conditioned, however, the taproom is not. It is a pleasant place in the spring and fall but gets awfully hot in the summer. Parking is a bit of an issue sometimes and you may have to walk a ways to get to the brewery. Overall a good place to go for a beer. Bring your dog!

Wow what a place. Tap room in the brewing facility gave a great vibe to being in Alabama to a tourist. Did a flight and liked the IPA immensely and considered buying a few sixers to take home but didn't because I was stupid. Their strong beers were also good, and the service could not have been better. If I find myself in Birmingham again, this is the first place I will go. Not only that, they had a great role in changing the beer scene in that part of the woods so give them a try, I'm sure I did.

Located, as many breweries are, in a somewhat run-down and industrial area, the brewery is in a large warehouse. There is a small front bar at the entrance, but we were directed to the right and into the main building area. There is a large semicircular bar in the corner, where we promptly sat down and ordered a sampler to share. Brewers were at work at the other end of the building, listening to loud music that made it somewhat difficult to hear...

They also had a small swag shop in the corner where I bought a tin tacker shaped like a licence plate for my basement bar. Large wooden cable spindles were placed on their sides for additional seating and a small stage took up another area. An open garage door led out of the building and to the side with additional seating, green space and even the old battered yellow truck that is their mascot.

A chalk line lay across the top of my sampler tray with the names of the beers scribbled in. The beers were all above average. I really enjoyed the brown ale and the Mumbai Rye (a very hoppy and spicy rye ale.) The pale ale and IPA were respectable but not quite as balanced as some of my favorites from Surly, Steel Toe, Odell, etc. The Bearded Lady wheat was fairly tasty as well. My bill was served to me in a Good People IPA can--very fun. I liked my visit to the brewery and would recommend trying them out as a shining example of a craft brewery carving a space in a difficult and traditionally non-craft market.

Located right across the street from the Birmingham Barons baseball stadium. A really cool brewery. The taproom is located right in the middle of the brewery and then they have a lot of wooden rustic tables around the taproom and off to the side. They have a large projection screen on the wall that I assume they show games on. The also have some large doors on one side of the building that they open up. It was a nice day when I toured the brewery and people were outside playing cornole. The day I was there they had the IPA, Brown, Bearded Lady, Pale Ale, Coffee Stout, El Gordo were on tap the day I was there. I was told that the they ran out of the Snack Halder the night before which was a little disappointing but regardless I enjoyed the brewery. The service was great as well.

Across from the Birmingham Barons baseball stadium, this place is in a cool part of downtown. Parking will be along the curb because of the limited parking lot. As you enter the front, you are directed to the right for beer. The bar is actually in the brewery so you feel like you are part of the environment. Lots of gigantic cable spools for tables and some christmas lights hanging everywhere.

There is a stage setup in the corner for live music on the weekends and also an outdoor area off the loading dock for friendly games of Cornhole. The beer is priced at a flat rate of $5 per pint, regardless of what you want. They had 6 beers on tap when I was there so $30 bucks to try them all. Seems a little pricey for a tasting room, however, you receive full pints and not samplers.

The coffee oatmeal stout was excellent and the best out of the group in my opinion.

What a great experience! Tasting bar right inside the brewery. The staff is a hippy-like cast of easy going but knowledgable advocates for their brewery. Service at the bar was great. The Snakehandler IPA was so good I couldn't drink anything else. Next time I will start light and work my way up so that my review is a little more complete. The brewery is equipped with a big garage door that is typically open (according to a local there). People were playing corn-hole outside. A couple of people had their dogs outside as well. Definitely a community atmosphere. The only minus I coud see is that this may get a little warm on a hot summer day. Also, make sure you grab a bite before you get there because they do not serve any food. I highly recommend going to Good People Brewing Company if you find yourself in Birmingham, AL!
