Stewart's calls this one a German style rye ale. I think that fits it pretty well, and since that is how they classify it I added it as a Roggenbier.
The beer came to me a slightly cloudy amber-brown color with an off-white head. The head faded to a ring, but that lasted until the end and left some light lacing.
The smell was of cloves, rye, a bit of pepper, and just a hint of a fruity banana scent way in the back.
The flavor was consistent with the aroma. Really interesting combo of the rye and the weizen yeast. The fruits were first (banana, apple, pear) then the rye showed up and took over. Touch of a spicy bite rounded it off. Very nice.
Solid medium to full body with good carbonation. Yeasty, with a nice spiciness that I enjoyed. Very easily could have a few of these but lunch time was about over.
