Filtered, coming in a 500ml brown bottle. BBE JAN 07. Served cool in a straight imperial-pint glass.
A: elegant ruby colour, coming with a 0.5cm thick foamy off-white head; low carbonation.
S: pretty balanced nose, gearing towards the sweet side: caramely, brown sugary, nutty, raisiny, red apple-ish fruity hops, and a sweet black tea-ish hoppyness sustains at the back with a faint tinge of roastiness. Pretty much of the typical aroma of a premium bitter, but quite nice all the same.
T: aromatic and lightly caramely maltiness goes lightly upfront, gradually an increasingly fruity (dates+apples) yet bitter and leafy hoppyness prevails; a dryish aftertaste of hops intensifies and lingers pretty well, albeit lending more weight to the mouthfeel than to the overall flavour.
M&D: the texture is pretty lively yet a touch too fizzy for me; thin-bodied and mild-flavoured premium bitter it is. Nothing too special about this one. It could use a better balance b/w the (semi-rich) aroma and (weak) palate, I think.
