Though a bit bold for an Irish Dry Stout, sharing characteristics with Extra Stouts are not bad ideas.
A very dark brown beer (nearly black) carries a mousse-like head of light tan foam that retained very well. Opaque all the way. A very solid look.
Malty scents of light roast and coffee, along with bold caramel/toffee are the more pronounced aroma components. No hops or flaws; very inviting.
Flavorful flavors of caramel and malt take center stage early on while char and roast start timid and rise though the sip. Finishes bold on the roasted character and even a bit on the ashy side late. No hops or flaws in flavor.
Very creamy and nearly full up front but the beer fades nicely into a malty, fleting finish. Would be malty-dry except for the caramel sweetness. The ashiness helps create a powdery texture but not oxidized.
The beer is sweeter and has a more charred finish than classic Irish Dry Stouts but it's equally tasty nonetheless. But undoubtedly, this beer has a high-quality English quality because of authentic ingredient selection and clean brewing techniques.

a: low khaki head over a deep, nearly opaque brown beer, retention is low
s: deeply roasted barley and black molasses prominent on the nose, weird grain biscuit aroma, mild earthy hops
m: moderate carbonation, medium body, thin for my taste but pretty smooth
t: burnt roasts and woody cocoa, not much body or punch here, pretty much a one-note story, and a little watery, but nothing's off at least, light earthy hop profile
d: alright, boring

On nitro-tap at Dog Pub in Columbia, MD on 8/22/09.
A - Very deep brown body with a full finger's width of creamy tan head that settled into a patchy film and thin ring of retention, yielding swatches of even lacing around the mug.
S - Earthy and roasty aroma with a hint of coffee and toasted malt. Quite a muted nose overall.
T - Flavor is quite roasty with coffee and subtle chocolate notes, followed by a toasted nutty character and a hint of astringency. Finishes with an earthy hop bite.
M - Medium bodied, although a bit thin and watery, but still quite smooth due to the nitro pour. Subtle hop bite in the finish with a tinge of astringency.
D - While this was your typical run-of-the-mill dry Irish stout, it was still pretty enjoyable overall.
