Half liter bottle picked up at a getrankemarkt in northern Bavaria labeled best by 14.06.24. Rich aroma of roasted malt, wet earth, tobacco, wood, and plenty of nuttiness so typical of the style. Similar profile and character in the flavor. Back to back Dunkles and between the two I might prefer this one (vs. Tucher). As it warms, it keeps the full flavor and rich body/feel. Really an outstanding example of the style.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Dark indeed, a shade of orange-mahogany, clear, with a 2mm ultra-fine bubble pale tan cap.
S- Very mild for me, I just get some grain.
T- I have to remind myself it's a lager, albeit a dark one, as it's notably malty. If I didn't know the name/brewer then I'd very likely guess this to be a trad English ale, and a well malted one at that! It does have a sufficient hop aspect too but the malty tasting malt dominates. 'Malty malt' because IME it's not often than malt in a beer comes out post-fermentation tasting, well, so malty still!
F- A good beer for cooler months as the feel is notably richer than a golden lager. Easy drinking, eminently sessionable if this fits your style, though it is hardly over-burdoned by complexity.
O- A surprising experience. I see the deeply trad/historic Bavarian chequered design on the lable and I think 'Hopefully a well crafted authentic golden lager type beer'. I don't expect something more like a notably malty English ale. I wonder why they lable it as 'Dunkel Export' though.... perhaps they ship it all to England ;;
Review2012/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==< 5%, and no surprise brewed to the German Beer Purity Law.

De Labirratorium. En copa de hefe de Bavaria. En almuerzo, con filetes de pollo con papas fritas. Muy rica Dunkel, con un cuerpazo con sabor a caramelo tostado y un marcado amargor que invita a grandes tragos

500ml bottle from Beerhawk (£3.99):
Cooper amber with a 2cm thick looking & creamy head with good retention & lacing on the sides. The nose is malty without too much sweetness, a little earthiness with nutty notes & a faint bitterness at the end. The taste is slightly more bitter & nutty with a few sweet sugars & earthy malts without anything dominating. The body is a medium one that's bitter throughout with medium carbonation levels & a nutty, earthy finish that's a little dry too but not as sweet as expected.

Had on tap at the Bauhaus in Munich, poured into a pint glass.

L: Pours a clear deep amber with a thick off-white head.

S: Mikd aroma. Toasted grains and malts. Mild hops.

T/F: Mild flavor, Toasted grains at the front and not as much malty sweetness as I'd expect from a dunkel. Definitely a nutty flavor with light hops at the finish. Crisp and moderately carbonated.

O: A solid but unspectacular dunkel. Not one I'd go out of my way to have again but a reasonable beer.

Poured into a glass from bottle with a cream-white head that disappears quickly. The beer is clear, with a color of dark caramel, and has a malty, almost metallic smell. The taste is initially malty and less sweet compared to dunkels like Augustiner and Hacker-Pschorr, then fades to a slightly bitter nut flavor before finishing without too much of a lingering taste. Light carbonation. The lack of sweetness makes it a bit less pleasant for me to drink in the long run compared to other dunkels, but it is still decent, leaving a satisfying and subtle malt taste on the palate.

On tap at Fabecks in Dahlem, Berlin. Nice place to eat if you're in the vicinity of FU-Berlin.

Served in a nice tall mug. A rather translucent toasty brown with a 2 inch tan head. A little see-through for my tastes... Nice lacing, but most beers on tap in Germany lace like crazy.

Toasty malts and a touch of sweet malt. Clean nose - the hops are well integrated into the beer, but don't overpower the nice malts.

Nice clean taste. I actually get very little dryness, but isn't as sweet as the smell suggested. The malt is clean, almost sterile, but nice cocoa and malt flavor.

Easy to drink, light body, nice carbonation.

Good beer, typical of most Dunkelbier. Went well with my "Elefant Ohr" - the nickname for the Wiener Schnitzel.

This poured a real nice, deep, copper color, with a good, tan, frothy head. The head lasts ok, and leaves nice lacework. Some malt and caramel come forth in the nose, though it is too much on the mild side. Had a bit less than medium body, and slightly rough on the tongue. You get some mild malt to start, then some subtle roasty notes. A bit of caramel comes through as well, and it finishes on the dry, somewhat bitter side. Not bad...
