Got this one from the man with the plan a while back. Cheers!
From a 375ml bottle into a snifter
APPEARANCE: Gusher here. Once it calmed down, a careful pour came out clear black and produced a two finger, looser looking tan head with good retention. Really foamy. Black body with no real carbonation evident. Head eventually fades to a full cap and leaves lots of chunky lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Definitely off. Metallic notes, with burnt rubber and ash. Lots of oak there as well, with tannins and light notes of chocolate. Off putting, unfortunately.
TASTE: Cardboard and wood tannins with alcohol up front. Too bad this is oxidized. More cardboard and metallic flavors at the finish with light notes of chocolate and oak underneath.
PALATE: Thin with lots of carbonation. Light and airy on the palate, goes down abrasive and finishes rather puckering. Too much carbonation and the tannins suck the body right out of it.
OVERALL: Very disappointed here, as what we have in front of us is definitely oxidized. Drain got to enjoy most of it. Lawson's generally makes fantastic beer and I've definitely been a huge fan of the Fayston Maple Imperial Stouts so far, as they've all been right up my alley. Too bad this particular bottle didn't fair well. Would be happy to try another bottle at some point and will update here if that happens.

Pour is black with a good bit of tight caramel colored head. Nose has wood up front, notes of bourbon, decent rich malt presence, slightly burnt edges, and a hint of licorice. Body is a bit thin but extremely airy and soft. Taste is marshmallow, wood, strong bourbon, richer malt, not really sugary, notes of vanilla, a bit of coffee and some bitterness through the finish. Solid stuff.

A: Pours black leaving a small, fairly-white head; little lacing, but decent retention
S: Nose senses maple, espresso, a bourbon-y roasted matiness, and mocha/chocolate
T: Notes are similar to the nose, with a little more emphasis/characteristic on them here: nice maple & chocolate presence accompanied by a surprisingly smooth bourbon-y feel
M: ABV is fairly quiet here in this well-designed medium body/medium carbonated beverage. Personally I don’t think the sweetness or syrupiness is overpowering, but a nice accompaniment
O: Lawson seems to do a pretty solid job in bringing out the maple characteristic in his products, and masking the ABV…another complex, yet easily drinkable, product from Lawson
