This farmhouse style ale is brewed with Pilsner, Vienna, Munich, and oat malts, and a hearty dose of tuxedo blend - white and black - peppercorns, then fermented it with French Saison yeast for a dry finish.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy burnt golden orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Concave foamy white lacing sticks to the glass nicely. The smell takes in sweet biscuity to bready aromas bouncing into subtle citrus, sweet rye and spicy peppercorn. Bright grassiness rounds out the aroma. The taste takes in the previously mentioned flavors to enhance the sweet bready / biscuitiness. Definitely sweet bready aftertaste runs into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation runs pretty light allowing the breadiness to want to be slightly sticky. Overall, I’d say this was an absolutely wonderful saison that I would have again.

L - The body has an orange hue to it with a fizzy two finger eggshell head. Not much lacing or retention to the head.
S - Definitely picking up the pilsner malts (others not so much) and the French saison yeast. Sadly, not much peppercorn on the nose.
T - The taste follows the nose and gives a bit more depth to the beer. I get little to no peppercorn.
F - Light bodied and high carbonation. The carbonation just dances around your tongue. The finish it dry.
O - I feel as though this is a very elegant beer with subtle nuances. But, getting no peppercorn, the name sake of the beer, was a letdown for me.

This was my 1st Asian.... I mean saison... And it set the bar very low, if there is even a bar left. It could very well be that I don't like saisons but there was nothing that I liked about this beer...

Vermont Brewfest sample pour. I believe it was on tap but am not sure. Aroma is slightly funky but the yeast is somewhat Belgian and estery. Very light hints of peppercorn. Flavor comes in with some pale malt, Saison yeast & esters. Again, soft peppercorn. A bit of dry fruit. Finish is dry. Mild funk. Lighter bodied. Lighter flavored. Wasn't too enamored with this beer. Can't win 'em all.
