Bottle courtesy of yllib.
Very dark. Even head is a minimal but very dark brown.
Some bitter maple woodsy flavor. Not much sweetness though. The sugar must have been eaten in the brewing process. Some coffee, roasty, coffee, bourbon/whiskey flavor.
Medium body.
Pretty good. It does taste like fall somehow.

Dark brown/black appearance, modest tan head, minor spotty lacing. Brown sugar, roasted coffee, whiskey barrel, balanced sweetness. Medium body and carbonation.

Pours dark black. Aroma is simply roasty with a slight coziness. The taste is sweet and more complex with vanilla, maple, whiskey and roasted malts. Medium feel though I had hoped for a fuller body. Overall an outstanding stout.

i have never met a lawsons beer i didnt love, but this one is next level, a very generous share by my buddy, who brought this over for the holidays. a really neat little bottle of stout here, heavy on the maple, which is always exciting to me. nobody does maple better than these guys, especially in big rich stouts like this. in this beer, lawsons actually brewed the distillers beer that created the whiskey for the barrels this is aged in, pretty neat life cycle here. the stout has a nice airy tan head from the bottle, an obvious viscosity, and a very dark brown color with an obsidian shine. the maple is intense here right away, deep amber rich flowing maple syrup in the nose, almost warmed up and ready for waffles, with a coffee note in the dark barley here, it almost smells like the morning time. good roast to it, plenty of oak but not a ton of whiskey to me, a light vanilla note that also is magic with the maple. the flavor is super balanced and complex, more bitter roasted barley than expected in the malt base, which is cool to offset some of the sweetness of the maple, which still wins the day but doesnt make this too sweet at all. i love all the maple in it, especially the finish, it almost seems like syrup was just added to a really good stout post fermentation and barrel ageing, i just cant believe how much of it is still here, and how much it impacts the texture of this, smooth and sticky to me at the same time, it hasnt fermented out as much as i thought it might in the barrel, very cool. the oak is nice, fresh and vanilla forward, while the whiskey is subtle to me, adding an alcohol waft to this at just the right instant, and giving some more grain depth to it, not overdone at all. the maple is still first. its sweet and warming at the end, lingering on the palate long, trace cigar smoke and raisin at this time too, so full and sturdy, its palate coating in the best way. overall just absolutely delicious, one of their best, and shockingly underrated here...
