On tap at VBF.
A: It pours a ruddy brown color with little to no head. At this point appearance is out the window, no retention, no lacing, no clarity.
S: This beer smells like it has gone horribly wrong. There is a hint of the maple from the base beer, but the Brett has taken over in a bad way. It smells like a horse blanket covered in manure, just awful. There is no sourness just off.
T: More of the same from the nose. The maple comes through and the Brett just mucks it up. It ends up coming off really rotten and foul. I love sours and this is just not good at all.
M: The mouthfeel is weak with no carbonation and a very light body.
O: Terrible. A perfect example of Brett gone all kinds of wrong. Avoid this beer.

Reviewed from notes. On tap at Night of the Funk. Pours a hazy moderate brownish color with a thin light tan head. The nose brings forward some odd characteristics. I really do not like what the Brett did to the maple here. I much prefer the base beer, just judging initially off of the nose. There is some sweetness still there, so I don't think the Brett is finished. Maple and odd funk, that's really all I can say. Just plain odd. Moderate bit of earthiness, and this pairs somewhat well with the maple. Just didn't really get this one.

On tap poured into a sampling glass.
Pours a nice amber and slightly hazy color, almost orange with a small white head. Nose is sweet from the mable, but it's got that nice light brett funk that's mellowing.
Taste is sweet, it certainly has that maple flavor to it which is great, and the addition of bret just kicks it up a notch, it's a bit tart but it doesn't have that barnyard funk. Very cool idea, hopefully he plays with brett more in the future.

Growler topped off to the rim by Shawn himself, as BCTC 2010 came to a close. Thanks!
Pours hazy, dark copper with a burnished brown hue. A one inch head of beige settled down to reveal a solid skim coat and spotty lacing throughout the glass.
Aromatics lead off with lush maple syrup, caramel, toffee, and light funk. Shades of menthol, pineapple, band-aids, and crushed mint follow through.
Medium bodied with a creamy, tacky mouthfeel.
Sweet malt with rich maple notes lead off the palate. A Sugar Daddy drizzeled with maple syrup. Some mild funk steps forward with drying notes of apple skins, pineapple pith, spearmint, and sugar-dusted wet hay.
Finishes with lingering sweet maple, drying menthol, and traces of caramel-coated apples.
The Brett comes through stronger in the nose and I'm surprised the beer is still as sweet as it is on the palate. Not a trace of tartness, just an added level of complexity.
