Can purchased and drank at Fattey Beer Company in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells quite roasty, with bitter and charred notes, piney hops, and some light citrus.
This has a really pleasant herbal, marijuana-like, and piney hop character, sitting comfortably atop of a thick, chocolatey, and roast base beer. It’s very intensely flavored but does not get overwhelming at all.
This is one of the thicker black IPAs I’ve had – it’s not a bad thing, but it’s definitely imperial stout thickness with west coast bitterness zipping through it. It’s not boozy or too big though, and it’s very drinkable.
Lawson’s seems like the sort who could do a very good black IPA, and this proves that little theory.
