Reviewed from notes. Had from a cask at Cigar City tasting room. Served in a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark, dark brown, nearly opaque, with a creamy tan head and no visible bubbles.
S: Toasted malts and almost some wet grass. It doesn't smell right (or at least not very good).
T: Roasted malts, a moderate raspberry fruitiness, notes of chocolate and a bit of coffee. It ends fairly dry with slight roast bitterness and a touch of residual raspberry. It tastes way better than it smelled.
M: Light body for a stout but seems about average for an Irish Dry Stout. Creamy mouthfeel and alcohol is well-hidden.
O: The raspberry was a decent addition to what is an average beer from Cigar City. I don't know what was going on with the aroma. I've never gotten that from any cask beer I've had. It seemed to have an almost dishwater-like aspects to it which made me wonder if the glass hadn't been cleaned/rinsed well - but I've never had that problem with the tasting room, and it appeared to be fine. I'm really not sure. EIther way, the beer was reasonably good and drinkable, but I won't be rushing back for another.
