Sample #6 at the brewpub 1/29/14
I'm surprised by the seeming heaviness of this supposedly lighter style of beer; it's thickly clouded and as solid as liquid gets to the eye. As far as color, it looks like orange juice with a splash of ruby red grapefruit juice. On top is an easy white head, not heavy but not spritzy. Lace shows moderate construction and stick.
The nose shows some malt backing but is mostly strawberry. It's fresh, ripe and clean, a little sweet but not too dessert-like with the slightest tartness to it. A bit of flora and very gentle leafy bitterness supports.
There's more bitterness in the flavor with strawberry more as the background. In the end, it actually tastes almost like pure grapefruit juice. Malts don't add a whole lot of balance, but some, though bitterness isn't as strong as one might suspect.
The feel is mostly crisp in a light body with a bit of smoothness running through. It's not complex, per se, but it's consistent and it's clean.
