On nitro at the brewery--hockey puck black with that distinctly nitro head that can't really be contributed to the base brew.

Being on nitro, not a lot came off the nose.

This is like Cigar City's take on Left Hand's Milk Stout. Literally, look up the reviews for that beer and this is damn near identical.

However, variations on the profile are some smokey undertones that I don't normally get from Milk Stout.

And, obviously, this is exceedingly dry, maybe too much so, but they achieved what they aimed for so well done.

On tap in a pint glass. L: pitch black with a creamy bone colored head and heavy clinging lacing A: faint chocolate and coffee notes T: roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate M: a little too thin for the style O: enjoyable Irish Stout but there are better representations of this style available.

On tap at Cigar City tasting room in Tampa. Not normally a fan of Irish Dry's so had low expectations. Outstanding appearance, dark black with a tan head that took forever to dissipate and left excellent lacing on the glass. Roast, some coffee, sweet malt aroma. Taste is pretty good, very much follows the nose. Thin to medium mouthfeel. Overall a pretty good beer which is saying for someone who generally does not care for the style.

16 oz. nitro pour in Cigar City tasting room.

Look: Nothing different from a Guinness. Almost completely opaque dark brown, with the lovely sight of nitro bubbles settling towards the top to create a caramel surge most o the way up. Took several minutes to settle in to a one-finger pillowy head that lasted through the pour. Rings marked the level of each gulp through the drink.

Smell: Practically no aroma at all.

Taste: Somewhat disappointing for a CCB offering. The nitro obviously thins the flavor a bit, but I was hoping for a construction that worked around it, rather than accepting it. There is the distant flavor of chocolate malts and some roast, but they're very faint. It makes it very drinkable, but also somewhat forgettable. No aftertaste or unpleasantness, though. I don't want to question Cigar City, but I also worry it may have been served too cold, and I didn't have time to let it warm up.

Feel: Very much where the beer shines. Wonderfully creamy texture, and a perfect dry finish.

Overall: Virtually the exact experience you get from a Guinness, to compare it to a macro offering, but definitely superior. Everything Guinness does, this does just about one mark better. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that, but would have liked a bit more flavor. If you want an irish dry stout on nitro, though, you'll be hard pressed to find better.
