Growler from The Growler Guys in Portland.
Pouring a clear light orange with a thin, white head that falls off rapidly, this beer looks solid. The nose is nice and refreshing. After having a ton of de Garde Berliner Weisses, it's nice to have a different brewer's take on the style. Clearly focused on the more delicately lactic and yogurty aspects of the style with a healthy dose of fruit, a blend of lemon and pear, a touch of rose water, this is really nice. The palate opens pleasantly tart, very yogurty with a a blend of soured buttermilk, light fruit, honey and a splash of lemon. Mildly perry-like, there's a noticeable pear character there. Faintly herbal as well. All told, though, this is a clean, lactic-forward, funk-minimal Berliner weiss, all of which are positive characteristics, in my book. Light in body, crisp in carbonation and with a long, tart, yogurty finish with honey, pineapples and pears, this is really nice. Recommended.
