Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from 12 oz. can into a Russian River Brewing pint glass.
A: Dark brown and essentially opaque with a two-finger head the color of chocolate milk. A good amount of small bubble carbonation runs up the sides of the glass, and the head has great retention. Very pretty.
S: Pine resin, citrus rind, and roasted malts with some chocolate notes. Not a huge nose on this one.
T: Roasted malts, chocolate (bittersweet and cacao), and grapefruit, resin, orange and herbal hops. There's some tobacco as it warms, and more orange/grapefruit character. The citrus rind bitterness lasts past the malt sweetness.
M: Nice heft to the body, with good carbonation sensation. The alcohol presence seems about average.
O: Pretty darn tasty, I think. Not quite Stone's Self-Righteous, but a good collaboration effort for sure - especially given Cigar City's recent spotty track record with collabs.
NOTE: Drinking a second can, I get more dried tobacco with a touch of smoke and leather pulling through on the flavor. Neither of which detracts from my enjoyment, but it seemed different.

Typical hoppy black ale. Tan head. Brown color.
Roasted and earthy. Caramel and chocolate. Some citrus.
Medium bodied. Some stickiness. Not really my thing.
