Reviewed from notes. Poured from crowler into a CCB teku glass.
A: Dark brown, opaque, and fairly low visible carbonation. Forms a half-finger of tan head with good retention.
S: Coffee (a mix roasted and green character). Light bourbon/cognac, and sweet oak aroma with dark roasted malts. But the coffee dominates overall.
T: Roasted coffee that strikes me as cold-pressed. Deep roasted malts, with a little bite of bitterness accompanying. Woody oak tannins that include some vanilla. Lighter bourbon (or apparently cognac) in the background. Some chocolate, and some dark fruit develops as it warms during the drink. Finishes malty sweet with more coffee (which adds some bitterness, and prevents this from coming across as a sweet bomb).
M: The body is a good bit lighter than expected. Fairly low carbonation sensation. The alcohol heat is noticeable, but doesn't seem "hot".
O: There's just a lot of coffee here. I like coffee, but this is to the point that it masks most anything else going on. The other flavors…they're there if you work at it. But any hint of the base beers, or even the other treatments, just get snowed under a mountain of coffee grounds. It's not bad - my biggest complaint otherwise was the body being quite a bit lighter than I expected - but just ended up being quite one dimensional to give a great rating to this one.

Pours a dark black. Had an amazingly strong aroma of coffe. Tastes strongly of coffee, very similar to cafe americano but much thinner in feel. Overall an amazing beer, I wish I could get more.
