Hitting all of our savory and succulent buttons, the brewers at Cigar City slather their brown ale with an undercurrent of coffee and maple but with a somber body that keeps the ale deceptively drinkable.

Jazzy Gotama certainly jazzes up the session with the characteristic dark brown hues. Its frothy and light sandy froth even takes on coffee-like proportions ahead of a robust scent of nutty, roasty, woodsy coffee, then a toffee, caramel and sweet butter maple scent that lurks in the background. Sweet and toasty, the beer's malty focus is of those dry toffee and caramel flavors with an aspect of toasted bread medium roast coffee, cocoa and maple.

Moderate in taste and texture, the beer's sweetness slowly retreats and the toasted character takes charge. Coffee, toast and a nuttiness of roasted pecans, align for a semblance of cracker jacks candies but with a peppery and woodsy edge. Hints of char peaks through the fleeting sweetness and offers a semidry palate, but an afterglow of butter maple returns in the after palate.

Medium bodied, but the ale shows remarkable complexity on such a friendly textured body. Drinkable and daringly refreshing, remnants of maple, caramel, butterscotch, cocoa and toffee keep delivering flavors as the woodsiness of hops and their moderate bitterness seems of peanut skins and charred toast in aftertaste.

Dark brown with ruby edges and a thin tan ring.

Smell is coffee and sticky maple forward, with a little cinnamon glazed nut.

Taste is more coffee dominant, with cocoa, vanilla, cola and nuts.

Medium bodied and frothy.
