Brewed with Richmond, Virginia’s thrash metal kings Municipal Waste, Divine Blasphemer combines the sacred art of brewing with Waste’s profane attitude to create a crossover masterpiece. This Porter is smokey and roasty yet balanced and approachable, making it the perfect beer for the saintly and the satanic alike.

Assertive smoke aroma reminiscent of campfires and wooden barrels on the nose is complimented by herbaceous hops and dark chocolate on the nose. The flavor of this Smoked Porter is surprisingly balanced with flavors of molasses, dark fruit and bittersweet chocolate balanced by beechwood-smoked malt flavor and a snappy bitterness. Complex, dark and approachable, just like Municipal Waste!

A very dark black color with a very little head and some lacing. Distinctive smokeyness with slight hints of malt. A nice smokey flavor malt beer. A light bodied beer with very little carbonation but lots of smokeyness. Well done malty beer with nice smokeyness.

This beer is a curious blend of things - it pours with a decent head of very light brown foam and goes down a bit dry. In terms of mouth-feel, it reminds me a bit of a dry Irish style stout (with a ton of smoke!). The smokiness is pungent, with a rich blend of roasty malt and a mysterious sort of fruitiness.

I enjoyed this quite a lot for the style - my expectations were low, given the exceptionally critical reviews.

Poured from the bottle into a Cigar City tulip glass.

A real gorgeous ruby mahogany body color, with this excellent ruby gem like hued color. Head creation is a simple two fingers, with an almost off tan to orange color tinged creamy head. Fine bubbles, and a small crowned puck with a big collar. Real neat and nice looking beer.

Faint smoke hints of malt, a touch of firewood ash but small. Faint hint of almost salty smoke, but some milk chocolate also seems to make an appearance on the nose as well.

Palate is a bit more surprising. A good amount of sweetness on this, with a bit of light porter quality unlike an Imperial. Flirting wet body and almost cola to light chocolate amounts of flavor in the mid palate. Slight chocolate milk aftertaste with a few touches of faint ash, but more cola sweetness.

Where's the smoke and malt richness on this beer? Drinkable, but feels like it's missing quite a bit.

As always the smoke is very prevalent, however not as dominant as with most smoked beers or rauchbiers. Flavor profile is solid, beer is a bit thin. Enjoyable overall

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown color and a thick, cloudy texture. There was an inch of creamy, off white, somewhat long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A surprisingly subdued aroma of chocolate, malt, a smoky quality, and a hint of dark fruit.

T: Tasted of a hint (but not that much) of the advertised smokiness, a lot of roasted malt, some chocolate, a tinge of molasses, dark fruit (plums, perhaps), and light hops. The flavor here is an oddly unassertive one, with none of the ingredients really getting through. Not bad, but too subdued.

F: A decent amount of carbonation with a smooth, dry finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A bit of a letdown in some respects. Not bad, but could have been better.
