As massive as a milking cow, this imperial milk stout has spent months aging in white oak bourbon barrels to impart spicy, oaken notes and emphasize the cream-like quality of the lactose with which the beer was brewed.

This was the only Huna Week/Tampa Beer Week bottle left by the time we ambled into Cigar City on Friday, but hey, happy to have it. 500ML bottle to myself, since the house is completely empty.
The pour is black & there are bubbles. Like it’s a porter, or something. The nose is sweet brown sugar, chocolate, & a hint of barrel. Fairly tame.
Cigar City Milk Porter – Bourbon Barrel Aged is a brew I’m glad I didn’t share with my wife – she’d hate it. There’s a strong charred, smoky component that I’m going to assume is from the barrel, like it’s coming from a peated whiskey rather than regular old bourbon barrel. It’s enjoyable; doesn’t reach my “I’m offended” threshold of campfire. That said, it does subdue the other components. Chocolate in the back of the throat, brown sugar pills, & a finishing whack of maple sap to add to the sweetness on the finish. Smooth; can’t taste the lactose, but I can feel it, & the double digit ABV is invisible. 500ML is starting to look intimidating.
Not up to the god-like standards of Cigar City, merely a good, solid beer.

Dark black with a bit of tan head. This smelled like a fine cigar that had just been put out. Very Smokey taste too. Tobacco, lactose sugar, chocolate, and charred wood. Fairly smooth.

Dark brown to black with a thin mocha ring.
Barrel is prominent on the nose with sticky molasses and prune that is reminiscent of a Port aged Barleywine!
The palate brings more balance as the barrel lends charred oak but allows space for cocoa dusted raisin and spiced bourbon with a little heat on the back end.
Deep, smooth and rich, the medium to full body is slick but has a soft, round and minimal yet filling thick froth that finishes semi-dry.

One of the Hunahpu's Week releases, a solid BA stout from CCB.
