No matter which deity you happen to exalt, this Barleywine-style Ale aged in Peach Brandy barrels before being aged in Rum barrels may just help bring you closer to Him/Her/Them.
A rich nose of toffee, vanilla, and overripe peaches is balanced on the nose by oak and spicy alcohol aromas. Viscous and complex on the palate, this Barleywine-style Ale offers molasses, raisins and caramelized peach flavors with wood tannins and rum-like spice adding texture and cutting through the beer’s imposing body.

Opened at 50°, poured into my Great Divide snifter. No head at all. Killer nose. Peaches. Dark fruit. Dark molasses. First sip is just flat out beautiful and quite overwhelming. Sweet up front, then the spicy rum barrel dries it all out, leaving a long and impressive mouthwatering feel. Nice heat at 14% ABV.
Spin. Repeat.

Reviewed from notes. 500 mL bottle purchased at Cigar City's tasting room. Consumed 12/5/19. Poured into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.
A: Rich dark caramelly brown, and very hazy bordering on opaque. Forms about a half-finger of tan head that fades fairly quickly to a ring. Visible carbonation on the low side.
S: Sweet caramel and peachy bourbon (I guess actually brandy, but whatever). Brown sugar and sweet bready malts and some spicy rum. Vanilla and wood tannins. But mostly brown sugar peach cobbler, without even a hint of fake sweetness.
T: Bourbon (again, apparently brandy) and brown sugar. Sweet toffee, oak, and then a swell of sweet peaches. Some oak tannins and vanilla, spicy caramel rum. More caramelly sweet malts with a nice toastiness and sweet sugar. More fleshy peaches and Haribo Rings. Then a lingering brandy and caramel sweetness after the swallow.
M: A sticky, full mouthfeel but never cloying. The alcohol heat is obvious but not obnoxious. Carbonation sensation as expected for the style.
O: Really enjoyable. Peaches are front and center, but while they may toe the line of excessive I don’t think it's ever crossed. The peaches and alcohol certainly become more integrated as this warms. A really nice balance of sweet flavors, bourbon (brandy) and rum and barrel tannins. Really enjoyable, though you gotta dig the boozy peach. And I do.
