Another goodie that I have to thank my man for sending me. This swing top growler is served chilled and poured into a snifter on 10/17/2009.

The pour was one of the best i have ever scene. Rich dark in color, pretty much black with a huge tan head on top that reached a height of around two inches and left tones of lacing down the sides of the glass throughout the session. Rich notes of dark fruit of chocolate are the first things that you notice. It builds as it warms with hints of prunes, grapes, rich cocoa and a touch of chocolate and woody notes now coming up through the air. As I reach in and take a sip I simply amazed by how smooth this one is. Rich notes of chocolate and huge flavors of rich dark fruits. Smooth smokey notes and a nice touch of bittering hops coming through as it warms. A good bit of woody flavor here, but hard to distinquish the port flavor. Very subtle, smooth and sweet finish leaves a long taste on the palate of chocolate and coffee.

Overall a very big beer that has been treated very well. I have yet ot have the original zhukov, but this one was outstanding and i would love to try it again.

Thank you to Blazer (Zac) for bringing this growler from Tampa to share. Poured into a Unibroue tulip after waiting for the growler to warm to maybe 55 or so degrees. Aroma of dark chocolatey malts. Alcohol is nicely hidden by the smoothness of Zhukov to begin with and the added level of complexity by conditioning in the port oak. Hard to taste the hops but the reaction on my tongue tells me that they are nicely seated in the back row. Another amazing example of the definition of craft beer to the highest level of craftsmanship.

Another very limited CCB brew.

A: Yeah it pours like a CCB stout. Very dark black, tall espresso like head. Nice retention and lace. These beers really are beautiful in the glass.

S: Nice roasted malt aromas with big blasts of chocolate and coffee. Loads of dark fruit with tannic wine qualities.

T: Nice and roasty with the dark fruit really coming forward. Chocolate and coffee are there but the wine and the oak subdue it a bit with some earthy vineous qualities coming out.

M: On the fuller side of medium, smooth, with great carbonation.

D: Pretty good for the style. Another tasty treatment of Zhukov's, but I like Hunahpus and Cedar Aged better.
