Good looking beer, with decent head retention for the high ABV.
Nose is wonderful and inviting, boozy and oaky. I don't specifically get apple (or cherry) brandy, but I do get a lot of chocolate, espresso, and vanilla, and the barrel influence is very noticeable - just not clearly identifiable as a fruited brandy instead of whiskey.
On the palate, the difference isn't immediately discernible either, as the heavy malt base and vanilla carry the load. Halfway through, however, the oaky and sharp brandy comes through, in particular with a lovely kiss of cherry. The apple is probably present, but I didn't really notice it, focusing instead on the cherry. Incredible mouthfeel, with a bit of heat and sharpness, but otherwise impressively thick, smooth, and savorable.
Another fantastic BA heavy beer from CCB. Well worth seeking out.
