Hmmm. I shouldn’t review beers when my head is starting to feel stuffed with Everclear, but WTF. Watching YouTube, Blue October, 500ML with brown/bronze wax busted open.
Mucky for a barleywine, dark, hard red edges. The nose is harsh booze & port. Which isn’t harsh. My words sometimes overlap. Or not.
The Gift of a Clock is heavy, man. Huge body, big alcohol hit. After the malts this is all about the multitude of barrels. The wine is on top, a hefty triple of sharp, grapey wines that lean towards Chardonnay. Napa dirt, California sun, Big Muddy spring merge into an experience that defies expectations, as El Cat should. Still weird.
Certainly experimental. I wish the cognac & brandy barrels would have found their voice, which would have pushed this into a higher gear. As is, good beer.
