A: Pours slightly hazy, brownish copper color, fizzy off head that dissipates quickly. Sure doesn’t look like a BSPA. 3

S: Aroma is caramel, nutty whiskey notes, some fruity esters, oaky bourbon. Somewhat odd conglomeration of aromas, but it’s pleasant and kind of works. 4

T: Taste is bitter and metallic upfront. Some caramel and raw oak. Not a ton going on, honestly think this is infected. 2

M/D: Won’t be finishing this one. 1

O: This is either infected or outright awful. Obviously, neither one of those is a good thing. Drained poured most of this one. I’ve only
been an El Cat member for a few years and it’s already run it’s course I’d have to say. Mostly it’s very similar base beer imperial stouts that are typically too thick and rich, and it seems like most of the time that they venture from that formulate it’s a big swing and a miss. I e already signed up for the next iteration but unless something changes I think I’m done. 1

One of my last reviews of El Cat 500ML bottles as I have bowed out after 14 seasons…beer has been good, but that’s not enough to justify the cost & bother anymore. Or perhaps I’m just old.

Looks Belgian. Darker orange one can see through with a touch of amber (like something ancient could be entombed in this). No head. Nose is merrily fruity with only a touch of barrel.

Coma Pinwheel sounds like a 1:26 AM drunken lay on the lawn (back, not stomach). The beer? It’s dominated by the aforementioned fruity esters, with spiciness from the rye barrels along with a quick flash of booziness. Full stop. Light despite the alcohol, in six packs this could cause one to fall off the deck after an hour or two at the grill.

A simple, standard beast that doesn’t bring much of interest to the table. Pretty good beer.
