Appears a very golden color with some amber hues and an off white head. Decent lacing.
Heavy scents of wood and malt with a slight hint of coconut and a bit of faint citrus.
The taste has a stronger presence of coconut and a bit slighter citrus and a very subdued caramel malt.
Mouthfeel is creamy and dry with a moderately foamy carbonation.

great amber pour with a nice tight white head that clung to the side for all it was worth. aroma of deep creamsicle orange, hints of light spice from the oak, a touch of light earthy notes. continued on into the flavor which again was dominated with citrus and just hinted perfectly with touches of wood and light spice to make it just that much interesting,

32 oz growler into in a tulip glass. Thanks go to Jw347 for this in a recent trade.
Pours a crystal clear coppery orange, with 1 ½ fingers of slightly off-white head. This retains with a rich finger of froth, throwing a big creamy cascade of foamy lacing up on the sides of the glass which then proceeds to slowly creep back down. The aroma has a LOT of juicy tropical fruits exploding out of it, with notes of mango, pineapple, apricot, and grapefruit all being out in full force. A rich smelling underlying mix of vanilla, caramel, and bread are present but it's those juicy tropical fruits that add most of the sweetness here to the nose. Some herbal and leafy feeling hop tones sit on the edges of this, along with a bit of a light woodiness.
The taste is smooth, mellow, and flavorful in the mouth, with sweet juicy fruit, vanilla, and caramel riding along effortlessly on silky notes of herbal hops and wood. This then gets a little sharper on the backend, with resins and dry spice zinging the tongue with some sharpness. A tasty blend of vanilla and coconut really hang with some heft on the breath after each sip as this warms up. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a overall smooth creaminess to the feel but there is still some crispness present that lightly tickles the tongue as this moves about in the mouth. Just very easy drinking stuff for its size and you definitely start to feel it after a couple of glasses.
Wow, this was rich on the palate but rich and very, VERY drinkable. The tropical fruit character gave this more of a complexity than the regular White Oak Jai Alai and made this a much more interesting beer for me. Another winner from Cigar City.

A: The IPA has an amber color, coppery orange and brown hues in tandem. Very little head.
S: The nose is phenomenal. Crisp hops, plenty of oak and a whole fruit salad full of tropical goodness. The oak adds vanilla aromas but the tropic-ale aspect steals the show. Mangos and peaches pile on to the White Oak's coconut flavors. A lush beer.
T: The bitterness of the hops is more apparent on the taste. The citrusy bite mixes nicely with the White Oak and the tropical fruits. Coconut and vanilla from the White Oak take charge and manage to overshadow the hops. The wood is a very nice touch that works (I've had several barrel-aged IPAs that fall short). More tropical fruits, mangos and peachs, mix with the coconut for a mighty tasty beer. The coconut continues into the finish along with flourishes of hops.
M: The mouthfeel, hoppy with lots of oak, is delicious, sweet and lush. Another incarnation of Jai Alai that hits all the right notes.
D: I love the experimentation, combining IPA, barrel and tropical fruits together. A coconut-lover's dream. Nicely done.

This treatment is quite the complex endeavor. The impact of the white oak aging on the base Jai Alai is substantial and profound. The impact of the Tropic-ale treatment on the Base Jai Alai is quite transformative. The union of all of these elements seems to be a bit much to balance.
The beer looks on par with Jai Alai and White Oak's norms. The beer primarily smells and tastes like standard White Oak Jai Alai, with a bit of muddling of some of the intricate vanilla and fennel-anise notes. The treatment did not improve White Oak, nor did it impart the tropical fruitiness of Tropic-ale. That said, it is still pretty close to the base White Oak, so it is still pretty phenomenal.
