On-tap in a pint glass at the Cigar City tap room. In the glass it's black with a finger of thick light brown foam that leaves a sheet of lace all the way down the glass. Smell: deeply roasted grain, dry baker's chocolate, earthy and slightly leafy hopping. There is a bit of a cedar box aroma but it's by far second fiddle to the roast. Taste: roasted grain - flirts with astringency but stays in positive territory. Mild hit of bitter chocolate, earthy, with a little bit from the cedar. Unlike the aroma, if you weren't expecting it, you might miss it. But the flavor is definitely a bit different from their regular dry stout. This was nice.
