Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a large head of white foam. The head has an amazing level of retention, very slowly fading over time and leaving a great deal of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is very heavy of a tropical fruit smell as one may anticipate from the name. The tropical fruits are somewhat artificial in nature, with notes of pineapple, mango, and papaya. Along with these smells comes a little bit of cracker and grain and a touch of must and hay.
Taste – The taste starts of a crisp cracker malt paired with some tropical fruit of pineapple and tangerine and a touch of papaya. While fairly pleasant upfront, the taste quickly turns with a metallic and artificial fruit flavor quickly coming on the scene. A little bit of banana, peach, and melon work their way in as well, helping the taste to some extent, but alas, the off artificial flavors can’t be overcome, and with a touch of booze coming on at the end, one is left with a crisp, but very artificial and off tropical taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is quite light for a 9 % abv brew with a higher carbonation level. The lightness does make it more drinkable for sure, so for the off-taste profile the feel is good as it makes it go down quicker.
Overall – Unless you are just looking to get drunk, then don’t do this one. And even with that said, you would be better off just going with a traditional malt liquor.
