On tap at Cigar City. Served in a snifter.
Appearance - Jet black. Foamed up a lot as it was poured. Big khaki head. Excellent lacing. Good looking stout.
Smell - Smoke above all. Dark roasted malts. Chocolate and some faint coffee make it through.
Taste - Way more smoke than the smell. It's all smoke. It's got done body to back it up, but there's just a ton of smoke. Barely any of the chocolate survives. There is a bitterness in the finish to accompany the smoked malts, though. It doesn't really help the strength of the smoke though.
Mouthfeel - Medium heavy body. The smoke lingers with almost an acidity. Not the most pleasant of finishes.
Overall - I keep trying to enjoy smoked beers, but this is too much. Huge smoke. Cleary a hefty malt backbone to this, but it can't stand up to the smoke.
