Pro-Am collaboration with homebrewer Jonathan Wakefield using Cigar City's pilot system.

Had this one on two different occasions. This review will come from my sample at Hunahpu's Day 2012. This was brewed using Hidden Rose Apples...rar stuff!
A - Pours a light pink color, mirky, white head.
S - Pretty big tartness right up front, some Hidden Rose Apple sweetness in there, but back comes the tart acidic notes. More like a wild ale then a Berliner, but I'm not complaining, just saying.
T - Similar to the nose, big fruity tartness, very dry, apple sweetness. Once again, the tartness plays a big role here and doesn't let up. Lots of pucker! The finish is light citrus and acidic tartness.
M - Light, good carbonation, dry finish.
O - Another excellent berliner, but really more like a wild ale to me. I would say this beer could easily contend with anything coming from any brewery in the country. Give me this beer over Cuvee de Castleton, Framboise de Amarosa, Upright Fantasia, etc. Simply stunning stuff!

Thanks to a generous individual for sharing this. A berliner made with Hidden Rose apples. Served in a Surly Darkness glass.
A - White foam quickly dissolves to a thin collar and wispy patches, but minimal lacework remains. Pink Lady apple-colored body, with perhaps a hint of salmon as well.
S - Well how do you like them apples? Smells intensely of tart, acidic apples. There's not a ton of the base berliner present, just exceptionally authentic apple flavors. The acidity takes on a mild acetone character when this warms up, but it's only a minor complaint in an otherwise highly enjoyable aroma.
T - The taste is also quite excellent, with intense sour and tart apple flavors dominating mid-palate but yielding to some of the Berliner yeast, lactic, and sour mash flavors in the finish. Definitely puckering, with tons of flavor for only 4.5%.
M - Medium-light body, with lower carbonation, and a bone dry texture. There's a tannic, juicy quality to the texture, and the beer displays sufficient heft from the ABV, yet some refreshing delicacy to it as well.
D - I hope Jonathan is able to get his brewery up and running, as his beers are too good to only be made occasionally on the Cigar City pilot system. Highly enjoyable stuff that I'd happily drink any time if I could get my hands on it. The intense acidity and pucker might impede all-night-long drinking but otherwise this is a great example of how good lower ABV beers can be.
