Beer bottle (33 cl.) purchased from V&B Rezé, and tasted in 2012.

Appearance : deep red brown color, with tan foamy head.
Smell : fruity aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : roasted malty and caramel flavours, with notes of spices.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style Belgian Strong Dark Ale.

Pours a very dark reddish brown with a tan head that leaves a bit of nice lacing. The smell is raisins and chocolate, with a sour note in the background. The taste is bitter and sharp, with a sour finish. Not nearly the sweet malt I expected. The malt comes on a bit later, trying to sweeten the flavor but being overridden by a dusty dry flavor. Not as good as the smell promised, I'm afraid. The mouthfeel is nicely carbonated and silky, but a bit watery for the style. The drinkability is limited by the dryness and sourness. This beer is a bit like its been brewed by someone who has seen pictures of the style. Sorry guys, better luck next beer.
