This dark brown, German lager has a mild malt character with flavors of caramel and toffee. It is smooth and sweet without the heavy-bodied feel of a dark beer. This beer was first produced in Saxony, Germany in 1543 and is believed to have been consumed since the Middle Ages.

On tap:
Pour is a dark brown, with a high level of clarity. Head is ok, but does provide lacing.
Not is chocolate malt, maybe a hint of cherry and wood. I actually liked the nose even though it took a little effort to extract it.
Taste is chocolate malt, bread-tasting grain, and an almost rye like feel. Bitterness is low, but this isn't a malty beer. It's fairly balanced, in my opinion- like the other beers I have tried by them.
The feel, I must admit, is a bit weak, even though the brewery write up indicates this.
A nicely flavored beer. It's not bold, but does get its flavors across well enough.

Had on tap. Dark brown, no head save surface islands here or there. Mild malts and smoke smell, bland. Caramel, smoke, nuts, and a sneaky amount of rustic bread finishing, odd, seems out of place. Feel is very watery, everything seems to fall away by the lackluster and out of place finish

Poured on-tap and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a dark brown coloring with ruby highlights and an off-white head. Nose of subtle smoke and not much else. A bit bland in terms of aromas. Nutty sweet and caramel notes on the palate, with hints of smoke. Watered down body, with a sugary sweet aftertaste. This beer limps across the finish. This one needs a lot of tightening up all over the place, with some beef added to the palate.
