12 oz. can poured into IPA glass
Very dark, almost no light penetrates the obsidian body. Tan head is not much, but hangs around, slowly fades through the first half.
Smells deeply roasted burnt malt, rich dry coffee, bittersweet chocolatey hints, but lighter and somehow more aromatic (raspberry truffle) than a stout or porter.
Taste is bitter roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate, sharp and clean and very good.
Feel is medium bodied, maybe more, but the bitterness offsets this into a pleasant experience overall.
While I don't know much about the actual oxymoronic thing called Black Pale Ales, I find this to be a high quality black hoppy ale of 6.5% abv that is recommended to those who like dark and/or bitter ales with a kick. Cheers.

Motherfrucking internet. I just penned a perfectly poetic, gregarious and poignant review of this beer and something happened with this stupid hotel internet. My score is reflected, with a very concise version of the review to follow:
12oz can my dad left in the fridge. Smells great, looks great, tastes awesome. Mix of stout and IPA with heavy stout leanings. Not hating. Decent hop bite but the coffee prevails. Dad usually leaves shitty beer in the fridge, but this was solid. The father has learned well from the son. Back to my Extermination Dismemberment album.

Growler fill, poured in a shaker pint. The beer is a dark, blackish coloring with ruby highlights and a creamy, clingy, light tan head. Aromas of subtle roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and subtle hops bitterness. Flavors are chocolate forward, with a heavily roast character, bitter coffee, and subtle hops bitter and resin. Smooth and dry, with a roasted, bittersweet, and subtle hopped aftertaste. The finish is dry, with a bittersweet linger.
